What it’s all about

There are times when I am so grateful for the Liturgy of the Hours, and today was one of those days.

First, a bit of background. Today is the final exam for my students, and the school year is winding down in general. I’ve worked very hard these past few months, writing over 138,000 words in less than a year on top of my regular priestly duties (and not counting my homilies or my blogging!). I had some of those course notes spiral bound in a set of fancy covers, and seeing it all come together in such a concrete way was very satisfying.

So what happens? The Lord hits me between the eyes with this passage in today’s Office of Readings:

2 “I know your works, your labor, and your endurance, and that you cannot tolerate the wicked; you have tested those who call themselves apostles but are not, and discovered that they are impostors. 3 Moreover, you have endurance and have suffered for my name, and you have not grown weary. 4 Yet I hold this against you: you have lost the love you had at first.” (Revelation 2:2-4)

Ouch! I must admit, I have been very occupied with doing “stuff”. I think it is now for me to come back to being less of a Martha and more of a Mary.
